Services at Thoughtful Therapy Toowoomba can also be accessed without a GP, Paediatric or Psychiatric referral, known as a Private Referral.
Please contact Thoughtful Therapy Toowoomba to discuss your support needs and to determine if a Private Referral is the most appropriate option.

Medicare rebates are available with a referral from your treating GP, Paediatrician or Psychiatrist.
To receive a referral, via a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP), you will need to schedule an appointment with you treating medical practitioner to discuss your concerns.
Most GP's prefer you to book a longer appointment to discuss your needs and complete the MHTP and referral letter.
Please contact Thoughtful Therapy Toowoomba to arrange your first appointment once you have this referral.
To claim the Medicare rebate, you must provide the referral letter and MHTP before or at the time of the first appointment.
Please note that the person with the MHTP must be present at each session to claim the rebate.
Once referred, you may receive up to 10 sessions every calendar year. Typically, an initial 6 sessions are delivered after which, a review with your referring GP/Psychiatrist is required to determine if you are eligible to access the remaining 4.
Medicare rebates are processed onsite and automatically at the time of the appointment, meaning you won’t need to attend a Medicare Service Centre to claim this rebate.
The Medicare rebate is generally processed back into the registered account overnight (processing times may be impacted by public holidays).

Joint Session - e.g. Individual & Care Giver/Significant other (30 - 50 Minutes) - $200

In some cases, having a parent/s, care giver or significant other involved in a session might be helpful.
These sessions are not claimable via Medicare and only occur with prior consent and planning.

Scheduled Phone/Video Consultation - e.g. with School, Medical Practitioners etc. (15 - 30 Minutes) - $50 or (30 - 60 Minutes) - $100

Phone and/or video consultation with relevant services or professionals is available and can assist in appropriately care planning for or managing presenting concerns.
Phone and/or video consultation are not claimable via Medicare and only occur with prior consent and planning.

All fees are payable in full, at the time of the session/consultation.
We use an Auto Payment system, meaning fees are automatically processed during a session/consultation.
Via the Auto Payment system, payment can be made using a debit or credit card.
Payment via direct bank transfer before the session, is also available.
We take great consideration as to the impact of our work on the environment. As such, we are committed to being a paperless practice where possible.
Receipts and invoices are available electronically upon request. If you require a printed copy, please don’t hesitate to ask.

At Thoughtful Therapy Toowoomba, we understand that at times difficulties arise unexpectedly, and appointment times may need to change.
If you need to change your appointment time or are no longer able to attend, we require at least 48 business hours’ notice, as it is often difficult to fill the session at short notice.
If less than 48 business hours’ notice is given or you forget to attend your appointment, then a cancellation/non-attendance fee applies.
This payment is required before another appointment can be booked.
This charge cannot be passed on to Medicare or Private Health Funds and will be an out-of-pocket expense.

Some private health fund members (including Bupa and the Teachers Health Fund) can claim benefits for services delivered by Accredited Mental Health Social Workers.
A MHTP referral is not required for these services to be eligible for a private health fund rebate. Services can either be claimed from Medicare, via a MHTP, or their approved health fund, but not both.
Please contact your private health fund to determine if you are eligible to access a rebate from an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker.
When accessing a private health fund rebate, please notify Thoughtful Therapy Toowoomba on or before your appointment. The full fee is payable at the time, following which an itemise receipt will be provided digitally. You can then claim a rebate via the channels provided by your private health fund.

The fee schedule at Thought Therapy Toowoomba is substantially less than the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) recommended rate of $270 per hour.
Current fees are set at lower than the recommended rate in consideration of equitable and affordable access for services.
